A blocked drain emergency in Darling Point

Andrew was living alone and was used to being a bachelor. He was not particularly clean but took care to keep most of his stuff in an orderly fashion. Last night, he had somehow caught the cleaning bug and had decided to clear out all the pots and pans in his kitchen.

Now, Andrew was a bloke who did not know much about cleaning pots and pans. He had two old cookers and a bunch of plates that were fairly pasted thick with food. Seeing it day after day made him feel gross.

So, he had cheerfully gone out in the evening and bought himself a bottle of cheap washing liquid.

So, he had filled his sink with water and scrubbed away. It had taken him an hour and a half to scrape away the last bit of scarred food - but he had done it. He had emptied his sink a number of times as it filled with soap suds and food. Finally, the job was done. He had gone to sleep a happy man.

His kitchen sink was not draining properly. It was a strange problem because water was going nicely down his drain. So, clearly the problem was not between the sink and the drain. But the water pooled on the grass outside his kitchen where the drain met the ground.

After a fair bit of research on the Internet, Andrew had gone out and bought some drain cleaning powders. He had tried hot water. When that did not work, he left the drain cleaning liquid for two hours. But, the water was still there, seeping on the ground when the kitchen tap was used.

Finally, Andrew realized that there wasn’t anything he could do. It was a job for a plumber and it was getting late.

“Great. I have to find a plumber, and this late in the day to fix my blocked kitchen sink. Will be extra charges and all”, Andrew sighed as he walked into the house.

Fortunately for Andrew, he did not have to spend too much time on the phone. The second plumber he called agreed to drop by at his home in less than 45 minutes.

“Wow, you guys are prompt”, Andrew beamed as he let the emergency plumber from Darling Point into his house.

“Oh, we are always around town, either in Darlinghurst or Rushcutter’s Bay, Edgecliff, Potts Point or the Eastern Suburbs. So, the local centre just calls up the person who is working nearest to your home and asks us to take up the job, if we can. That’s why we get to our clients in no time”, the plumber explained.

The emergency plumber worked deftly and quickly to remove the blockage. He used the water jetter to clear the blockage from the sewer line. Apparently it wasn’t just the kitchen that was blocked, it was a bigger problem as tree roots had invaded the drains.

Andrew was impressed and he made it a point to collect the plumber’s contact number and address. “Just in case I decide to clean up anything else”, he winked as the plumber left.
